BLUEFIELD, Va. — ������ý University has expanded its e-sports program with upgraded hardware, an expanded game lineup, and renewed efforts to recruit student gamers. Madison Whisman is the Director of E-Sports at the university and he also serves as a traditional admissions counselor.

The program currently supports competitive play in Call of Duty (Multiplayer), League of Legends, Rainbow Six Siege, Overwatch, Smite, Hearthstone, Fortnite, Valorant, Rocket League, and Apex Legends. Plans are in place to add Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart to the lineup.

As part of the program’s expansion, ������ý University is working to engage local high school e-sports teams. Whisman is organizing a local high school tournament this spring, inviting area schools to compete in the university’s newly upgraded e-sports arena.

“Area high schools already have e-sports teams, and we believe this tournament would be a great opportunity for them to experience our facility,” Whisman said. “We want to introduce students to our program and give them a pathway to continue their e-sports careers at the collegiate level.”
